Week 5, Blog 2, Chapter 10

In chapter 10, Organizational Alignment, competitive strategy is crucial when wanting long term success in a business. They are statements/words that companies use in order to make customers believe that their products are better over their competitors. Some company slogans that stick out to me are McDonalds, “I’m lovin’ it,” and Subway, “eat fresh.” Its certain sayings that these business’ use that stick in my head and that I choose to use over other brands. These are communicating strategies.

  1. It is these types of business that have so much competition out there that they need to be very creative and catchy with their slogans so that they catch the attention of consumers. For example, some slogans that stick out in my mind that are very popular is Nike's slogan "Just Do it" or Chili's Bar and Grill slogan "Live a Little". Another great example of a slogan and advertisement that has been going on for years is the two slogans for milk: "Milk, it does a body good" and "Got Milk?"

  2. One of the slogan that I love is the Safeway grocery store's slogan "Ingredients for Life." This slogan and all the television and print advertisements has really given Safeway competitive advantage over other grocery chains like Albertson's and Raley's. The communication and marketing leaders at Safeway have drafted our very clear competitive strategy to make them more successful than other grocery stores. Safeway does not really sell different ingredients than other grocery stores, but the communication strategy has given them advantage because their ads focus on coming together of families for daily meals and holiday meals. It captures the basic emotional needs of a person to be around loved ones and enjoy food.
